Encouraging world peace is goal as Peace Mandala project announced

Scottsdale, AZ,   Members of the Arizona Holistic Chamber of Commerce announce a project intended to inspire peace and goodwill throughout the world.  Called the Peace Mandala, chamber members are creating the visual project by hand.

Mandala is a Sanskrit word that means "circle" and is used in Hindu and Buddhist tradition to aid meditation and spiritual aspiration.  In common use, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos or a principle.

“We believe this mandala will inspire and demonstrate peace on the planet, starting right here,” says Janet Gangl, president of the Arizona Holistic Chamber of Commerce.  She continues, “Our members are enthusiastic and we are looking to expand participation to anyone interested.”

This mandala is created as individuals contribute a small image to the overall visual, which is circular in shape.  The images reflect one of 11 themes for peace, such as peace in the workplace and peace in schools.  Started by Janet Gangl and Claire Perkins, the mandala will reach culmination in December 2010.  The overall concept is inspired by Jennifer Sar, director of the Peace Pie Mandala Project.

Chamber representatives are available to speak to interested groups and organizations.  For more information email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Originator Claire Perkins is curious to see what the result will be.  “We don’t know how big this is going to be.  But considering we are adding to it on a regular basis with a monthly theme, it’s going to be huge,” claims Perkins.
